The unincorporated community of Coyote, CA, is located in the Santa Clara Valley, along Coyote Creek between Morgan Hill and San Jose. Part of Coyote actually sits inside the San Jose city limits, including its own small post office.
The town’s name was changed to Coyote from Burnett, apparently because many coyotes were often seen in the area. Coyote nearly disappeared after the construction of the 101 freeway less than one mile east of town, then was later almost absorbed by San Jose’s urban sprawl before the collapse of the dot-com bubble around 2001. The historic Grange Hall is a notable landmark in Coyote, and the Coyote Creek Parkway is a bicycle path running through the community.
